I’m Jes O'Reilly, and I believe design is one of the most powerful aspects of storytelling.
My passion is working within a team to facilitate storytellers. I help film makers tell their story in a way that allows them to portray more than simply dialogue and plot.
I think what audiences see on screen should always add to the story, further expanding on characters, decisions, and plot points by making the audience feel a certain way. Whether that be happiness or gratitude, a level of discomfort, a sense of understanding of a character’s backstory, a situation, or a decision.
One of the many reasons I was drawn to Art Department is my passionate interest in different design styles, architecture, furniture and fashion. I’m drawn to projects where I can relay my knowledge of geographic and historical influences on design. I particularly love mid-century design and have an affinity for early colonial-Australian culture. I have an aesthetic sensibility, and some may say, an unusual knowledge of historical design.
I love problem solving, am very resourceful and a fast thinker. I like to balance attention to detail when required, with strategic thinking, weighing up resources and considering deadlines.
I have a background in corporate marketing and have owned and managed my own successful company for more than 3 years. I was able to succeed in my career and business thanks to my work ethic, adaptability, communication and collaboration skills. My skills in organisation, budgeting and strategic and creative thinking serve me well in business, life and art.
